Falling into NYC Nightlife

How It All Started…

I began working in NYC on February 23, 2004, ecstatic to be an investment banking analyst and work 100+ hours a week. Whenever I reflect upon those times it’s evident that I was delusional. I consistently endured the wrath of abusive bosses that treated all subordinates like garbage. However, the inherent flaws of my brain “rescued” me! Since I eventually began to hate my first job, yet continued allowing it to control my life, my brain subconsciously modified my thoughts and I convinced myself that I was “paying my dues”, that way I could continue going into the office every day (Example of Self Delusion). When I wasn’t at the office, I’d go out to bars and talk to girls. But….. I had no “game” and the conversations died quickly. I’ve never felt comfortable at bullshitting or boasting of past accomplishments; to this day, I always downplay prior achievements in fear of becoming complacent. As a result, oftentimes I wouldn’t say much when speaking with random girls and conversations would end quickly.

My friend from Cornell University, Chris Riccione, had experimented with nightlife promoting and suggested that I try it as well to meet new people. I’d never been a fan of nightclubs (primarily due to door policies) but I acquiesced and felt it was worth giving it a shot. What I quickly observed was that the Nightlife & Entertainment Industry was very fragmented and unorganized.

Fast forward to today, I never would have imagined that Nightlife & Entertainment would become a material component of my life; while I still dislike the innate superficiality, dishonesty and self destructiveness indelibly sewn into the Industry’s social fabric, I’ve forced myself to separate and detach myself from the negative components so that I don’t fall prey to aspects that would poison my character and sense of purpose.

This Industry destroys the majority of its members, even those that many consider to be highly successful are currently walking down a path of remorse and necessary rehabilitation. People, in general, are poor at resisting seduction & temptation; the corruption process usually begins very innocently, with the individual, logically, thinking, “Why not spin fakeness and superficiality on its head? What’s wrong with having the Playmates and Ford & Wilhelmina Models come over to ‘play’ for an hour or two? We’re both using each other anyway.”

This “fun” is typically a precursor to the insatiable greed, ego and desire which, over a period of time, overwhelms and nullifies an individual’s future.

For all, myself included, who desire to achieve their goals and maximize accomplishments, we must never forget our inherent compassionate and humble disposition prior to the corruption that’s taken place and robbed us of our innocence.
